This video makes a vaild observation that advances in technology (or increases in efficiency) increase human consumption and demand. Unfortunately, the video does not address solution to or aknowledgment of the problem that is our 100+ self-destrucitve, often violently imposed, pseudonation states. This film’s delusional, barely existent solution resides in Europeans deciding to work less in exchange for more leisure time.
Producing less by choosing to work less is irrelevent because it disacknowledges the inherent issues of the many pseudonation states’ non-sustainable resource use. It is this government (not science) induced, trendy, “green” pseudo enviromentalist bullshit that elongates our collective denile of our current, climactic place in time.
Awesome! I just justified my slacker existence. I knew I was living right.
God, I wonder how such change could come about in the USA. How do we go from this workaholic consumer lifestyle to something more sane like the Europeans? It would definitely require a multi-pronged attack. Media would need to change… people would need to speak out about consumption. It seems to me that there are horrible greedhead manager types who are running things and that they are the ones insisting more more more faster faster faster. Because if the average worker goes to their boss and says “hey boss, I’d like to work less and work less harder and enjoy life.” The boss will say “yeah, I’ll fire you. All or nothing kiddo.”
I don’t understand how economists can possibly act under the presumption of infinite growth. That is a massive cognitive dissonance. No wonder Americans are so crazy.
I think it’s very telling how strong he Euro has been lately, and how our US Dollar is dropping so badly.
Think about it. What happens to a sandwich after I eat it? My body processes it, turns it into fuel to power my actions, and a whole bunch of the sandwich is expelled as useless waste. I think the parallels are striking and obvious.
