Something Like a Comrade

nexalitesThis post is a critique of Arundati Roy’s essay entitled Walking With the Comrades – a piece she wrote for Outlook India about the Maoist/Naxalite/tribal resistance in central eastern region of India. I read the entire bloody essay because the best coverage on the matter was for some reason until now from the Economist of all sources, and then read all 144 (at the time. Now there are over 200) comments.

I feel I can write this critique not only because I’ve been to a good many parts of India (and not in a touristy way; stayed at a slum, etc. Real hard core), but also since the last few months have been nothing if a consistent analysis of resistance tactics, methods and results.
