Undoubtedly inspired by recent events in Greece, a protest of hundreds of people that took to the streets in response to the unprovoked police execution of an unarmed man at a BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) station in Oakland, California, turned rowdy Wednesday night.
The initial protest included many community organizers, as well as hip-hop artists and others, and was overwhelmingly non-violent, though numerous references to community self-defense were made throughout the speeches delivered at the rally. This atmosphere of pacified pacifism, however, was not to last.

Greetings guerrillas, workers, and wage slaves. What’s up, fellow rebels, insurgents, and revolutionaries. Hello to you filthy bourgeoisie as well. Shit is heating up surrounding the police murder of Oscar Grant at a BART station in O-town. A demonstration against police terrorism, inspired by recent events in Greece, got rowdy and fucked shit up. As hundreds took to the streets, cars have had their windows smashed in and have been set on fire, and at least one corporation, McDonald’s, was targeted and had its windows smashed in. Riot police have responded with massive presence and chemical weapons such as pepper spray and tear gas. While police claimed they had arrested on 14 people, news choppers caught at least one mass arrest on camera, consisting of around 40-50 arrests.
